Why Am I Always Tired?

Energy levels are something that I assess at each and every consultation to get a gauge of how my clients are feeling day in and day out, and what may be contributing to low energy levels in particular. Tiredness is very common, for a number of reasons, but usually with a few simple tweaks to diet and lifestyle, energy levels can be bumped back up in no time.

What is tiredness or fatigue?

Fatigue is a state of extreme tiredness or exhaustion, both physically and mentally. It is a common experience that can result from a variety of factors, including physical exertion, lack of sleep, emotional stress, and medical conditions.

There are two main types of fatigue: physical and mental and both have different triggers and symptoms.

What are the causes?

Fatigue or extreme tiredness can have various causes, and addressing the underlying cause is important for managing and alleviating it. Common factors include poor sleep or not enough quality sleep, excessive physical or mental exertion, stress, poor nutrition, medical conditions (such as anaemia, thyroid disorders, or chronic illnesses), medications, and lifestyle choices.

What are the symptoms or what does it look like?

Tiredness can have a range of symptoms, including:

  • Feeling physically weak or drained

  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

  • Reduced motivation

  • Increased irritability

  • Decreased alertness and reaction time

  • Muscle aches and soreness

  • Headaches

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Poor mood or emotional imbalance

What can I do to overcome tiredness?

Typically a lot of change can be seen through changes to diet and nutrition as well as lifestyle. Stress is a very common contributor to tiredness, so reducing and getting to the root cause of what’s causing this can have drastic improvements. Additionally, other lifestyle factors like improving sleep quality, sleep hygiene prior to bed, exercise or movement can also have positive effects. Changing up or moving your energy can be a really big one done via movement, energy shifting techniques like rebounding, jumping, priming etc have all been shown to provide an increase in alertness and energy levels.
